ABOUT US

Project Nok Hook (PNK) is a student led initiative in Singapore Management University (SMU) since 2009, that works with the National Youth Council (NYC) under its Youth Expedition Project (YEP), a grant scheme that supports Service-Learning projects to communities in Singapore, ASEAN, China and India.

“Nok Hook” means “Owl” in Thailand, and is symbolic for education. PNK is into its tenth installation (PNK X) this year, and continually looks for schools in Thailand to work with.

Mission: To inspire learning, passion, and an appreciation for the English language while engaging in cultural exchange.

Vision: To improve the English literacy rates of students in Thailand by inspiring and equipping them with skills, providing a strong foundation for further advancement of their education while growing and learning as a team

MORE ABOUT OUR PROJECT

Description:

Project Nok Hook XI will be visiting schools in northeast of Thailand this December. Our team of 24 members  worked with multiple schools in Loei and Khorat to conduct educational camps and engage in cultural exchange with the students (aged 8 - 12), teachers and communities.

Main Programmes:

English Camp for Students

We will be conducting a 3-day English Camp for students from both schools, focsing on the fundamentals of the language and in sparking an interest for the language. This would be done through activity-based learning which covers on reading and grammar.

Cultural exchange for Students

We will also be conducting cultural activities for students where we share with them more about the cultures in Singapore and ASEAN. Various activities would be conducted for students to have a better understanding of cultures outside of Thailand.

English Camp for Teachers

To improve sustainability of our project, we will be working with school teachers through a 3-day Teachers Camp. We hope that they would be able to gain some insights into the teaching of the language through our sharing of teaching pedagogies and programmes for their students, and apply them to their lessons during our absence.
